Finding the Right Tools

Every tool below shows up at least once in the chapters that follow. Skipping any one of them turns a 12-hour build into a 20-hour build with worse results. The full vendor-linked list is rendered on the chapter overview page (see Required tools); the notes below are quick rationale.

• Loctite Blue (242) — every threaded fastener that takes load: piston-head screw, motor mount screws, MOSFET hardware, hop screws on the Maxx unit. Blue, not Red — Red is permanent.
• Loctite Retaining Compound or JB Weld — bonding bushings into the shell so they cannot rotate or walk under cycle pressure.

• Ball-peen hammer + punch set (Brill Armory's bushing/punch set is what we use)
• Phillips screwdrivers in every common size
• A standard flathead for trigger group, spring guide bayonet, and hop arm tabs
• Torx bit set — required for Retro Arms gearbox shells
• Rotary tool (Dremel or equivalent) — sector clipping, AOE tooth re-shape, gear-axle polish, barrel crowning

• 80 grit sanding block — motor grip AOE work
• 120 grit sandpaper — bushing-seat scuff, gear-axle scuff
• Polishing compound — gear-axle finishing pass
• Brasso — stock-barrel polishing only

• Insidious Armory gear grease (TheRealDealAirsoft) — gears and O-rings. Use code 6MMCUSTOM at checkout.
• Dedicated silicone O-ring grease — separate tube, kept away from the gear grease so the two never cross-contaminate.
• Teflon tape — sealing non-Real Deal cylinder heads and nozzle ports when necessary.

• Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) — degreasing bushing seats, hop chamber, optical sensor windows
• Paper towels (lint-free for compression parts)

• Digital calipers (0.01mm resolution) — tappet cuts, shim stacks, nozzle length
• Compression syringe with a V2 nozzle adapter — leak test before closing every shell
• A real chronograph — not a phone microphone app
• Soldering iron (60W+), leaded solder, heat shrink — MOSFET re-termination
• LiPo-safe balance charger

Buy tools once. The bench setup pays for itself inside two builds.
